%X The incoming long wave radiation from the sky does not apparently follow any "simple" law. It is difficult to evaluate this parameter over vast oceanic areas due to lack of infrared radiometric measurements. In view of this, multiregression equations are obtained relating computed long wave flux from water vapor to shipboard measurements of the square root of vapor pressure as the two independent variables. Ship measurements obtained during the GARP ATLANTIC TROPICAL EXPERIMENT (GATE) from July to September of 1974 are used in the analysis. The present work gives explicit reference to the influence of vapor pressure e on Fd and emissivity. The inclusion of a humidity variable of form x3=square root e gives significant statistical information concerning Fdw' at very high confidence levels.
